About the Ihonvbere Foundation
The Ihonvbere Foundation was founded to advance quality leadership, constitutions and constitutionalism, the rule of law, political discipline, the construction and nurturing of democratic values, building strong and viable political institutions and giving hope to the ordinary person that there is indeed a collective future to work for. Our work is about human, especially socio-economic and cultural rights, due process, accountability, fiscal discipline, transparency and the careful but targeted deployment of scarce resources to meeting the basic needs of the majority of the people. Everything we do flows from this fundamental commitment.
Our Approach to Grant Making
A fundamental challenge facing every society is to create political, economic and social systems that promote peace, human welfare and the sustainability of the environment on which life depends. This is especially true of the African Continent in general and Nigeria, in particular. We believe that engaging people and the communities closest to them, and from all levels of society is one of the best ways of finding solutions to the most complex problems. Hence our commitment to advocating for solutions at the village level.
We work mainly by making grants or loans that build knowledge and strengthen organizations and networks. These methods of problem-solving reflect our mission and the diverse ways we support grantees. They also describe a model of philanthropy that the foundation has pursued since its inception: To be a long-term and flexible partner with innovative leaders on the frontlines of social change.
